Sobbing Sibu - Sibuians Are Still Awaiting

A heavy downpour landed half of Sibu in water!

With some of the main roads filled up to higher level to ease off flooding woes, the residential areas along the roads are now more flood-prone due to poor drainage system.

Sibuians are crying out in despair.

According to the local dailies, a sum of 400 million ringgit has been granted to Kuching and Sibu to mitigate the perennial floods.

The proposed campus of TAR College in Bintangor has just gone with the wind. Sibuians would certainly not want to see the proposed flood mitigation project to follow suit.

The above photo is by courtesy of Meng Lei. Meng Lei worked harder than a lot of politicians during flood hits. Let's give him a cheer!

Yes Well Done to ML.
He is not afraid to get nearer the water...and his car almost "die fire" Si Hui....
Jokes aside it is important for all to have something properly dones this time. Sibu was once the glamourous timber town and a business capital. But now it is like a sad sinking ship!
Let us put brains and hearsts ; hands and legs together to help Sibu regain its glory.

Tony, why dont you blog about the new renovation/construction of Masland Church?Maybe the 30 million sum can be channelled to help the poor and the sick instead of building such a luxury church.Has the church gone worldly?Remember how Jesus blamed the 7 early churches in the book of Revelations?

Ephesus – The desirable church that left its first love (Revelation 2:1-7).
Smyrna – The persecuted church that suffered poverty and martyrdom (Revelation 2:8-11).
Pergamum – The worldly church that mixed doctrines and needed to repent (Rev. 2:12-17).
Thyatira – The false church that followed a seductive prophetess (Rev. 2:18-29).
Sardis – The "dead" church that fell asleep (Revelation 3:1-6). Philadelphia – The church of brotherly love that endures patiently (Revelation 3:7-13). Laodicea – The "lukewarm" church with a faith that’s neither hot nor cold (Rev. 3:14-22).

Which one does the Methodist church in Sibu resemble?
May God have forgive us and have mercy on us.

Daniel, thank you for your brotherly concern about our church. Like what you said, may God have mercy on us. I will certainly blog about The Masland Methodist Church and The Hoover Project.

Hey friends.. whats wrong of building a luxurious church if it could glorify our lord..ie. bring more people to HIM...may this church turns Sibu a heavenly place to live....

Anonymous,
Even if you have big luxury church that you think could glorify the Lord, but you left your first love,it is useless.
And you think that the big luxury church will glorify the Lord, but the Lord's understanding is beyond your thinking.
This led me to wonder if we are emulating the Roman Catholic church in the 14th century that prompted Martin Luther to reform. At that time the Roman Catholic church was so corrupted that anyone could use money to "wash away their sins".

Let's endeavour all that we possibly can to glorify God's name, be them in church buildings (like the Hoover Project of The Masland Methodist Church), in social care and love (as Jesus says, anything you do for one of your brothers, however humble, you do it for Christ Jesus), in teaching (of God's words) and in spreading gospel (through missions and cross-cultural preaching). To the best of my knowledge, the above form the pillars of the works of SCAC, Methodist Church. Let's join our hands together to pray hard for our church.

Daniel, it is great that we are able to get down to talk about church-related matters in this manner.
