reflected the general dismal outlook for the new year.
Malaysia is not alone to feel the chill of the cold wind blowing all over. In fact, our nation was better shielded from the tsunami-scale global meltdown. Fundamentally, Malaysia is on a firmer foothold this time than it was in 1998 when Asian financial crisis swept across the Asian nations.
But the contagious effect of the near-collapse of the States' financial system is fast getting on us.
Don't let the seemingly srill-bustling shopping centres in Sibu to mislead you, making you to think that we are immune from the spreading economic flu. Let the figures speak to show you the downtrend.
As usual, we started the year off with a New Year service at The Masland Methodist Church. It was wonderful to devote the first rays of a year's light to our God!
Rev. Ting Huat Ung in his sermon called on the congregation to act like Apostle Paul in having great vision, clear goal and strong mission in our commitment to God.
"You would be mission-driven only if you have vision and goal," Rev. Ting pointed out.
Rev. Ting further challenged the church members to commit to a life goal that in whatever you pursue, do it in the name of Christ Jesus and for the sake of Him.
The pastor quoted Acts 9:1-22 to expound the biblical points. I found them relevant and helpful for the start of a year.
