Chen Shui-bian is actually on fasting and not hunger strike as reported.
According to the public opinion in Taiwan, whilst being remanded, Chen Shui-bian's strike is at best only a fasting since he has no political ideology to protest against the present government. His detention on remand is purely on corruption charges. As such, the whole arrest is too far-fetched to be captioned a political persecution.
Chen Shui-bian is renowned for putting up political gimmicks to win public sympathy!
Consequent to Chen Shui-bian's arrest, his son Chen Chih-Chung and daughter-in-law Huang Jui-ching were summoned in by the prosecutors for questioning in connection with the graft case.
It seems that the prosecutors are adamant to go down to the roots with a view to nail Chen Shui-bian on the wall.
Taiwan's prosecution efficiency on graft charges is what Malaysia has to emulate!
