The Hoover Project - How Lovely Is Your Dwelling Place, O Lord Almighty!

The Hoover House was well known worldwide. It was popular among the backpackers. About ten years ago, one European tourism writer was on a writing tour of South- East Asia. Over a cup of coffee, he shared with me a tour guide book. It was amazing to note that The Hoover House was listed as a recommended lodging house in the book. This historical picture of The Masland Methodist Church is priceless. The publication of the invaluable work is again by courtesy of Philip Hii. When brother Tan Kee Hian (one of the speakers of the 9th Methodist Convention) e-mailed to me asking for some pictures of the original Masland Methodist Church, Philip Hii instantly flashed over my mind. Upon my request, Philip was obliging enough to help. Thank you, Philip, for your generosity.

From the humble wooden structure to the just-completed grand concrete church complex, the history bears wonderful testimony to the grace of our God!

As we worship in the extended church, we can't help singing out loud to our Lord, as the psalmist wrote in Psalm 84:1: How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty!

9Th Methodist Convention & The Masland Methodist Church

The Masland Methodist Church at Island Road, Sibu has been chosen to be the venue for the upcoming 9th Methodist Convention.

The Hoover Project which includes the extension of the church building is completing in time for the convention.

Next week a total of 1,300 church members shall congregate here for a three-day convention.

The 9Th Methodist Convention

Brother Tan Kee Hian will be back in Sibu next week to deliver a topical talk on "Transforming the nation: The future of Sarawak from a Christian Perspective, with special reference to Blue Ocean Strategy" at the 9th Methodist Convention.

Methodist Convention is a biennial event of SCAC. The 9th convention which is scheduled to be held from 3rd to 5th of June promises topical talks of immense contemporary interest.

Brother Tan was in Sibu last year giving a highly thought-provoking talk in a public forum on the prospects for Sibu.

Duang Wu Jia (Dragon Boat Festival)

In lunar calendar, today is Duang Wu Jia. This Chinese festival falls on the fifth day in the fifth month of the calendar. To those who are celebrating Dragon Boat Festival, I wish you a happy occasion.

In Chinese families, it would be a bit too much to let Duang Wu Jia slip by without a delectable dinner together.

After a thanksgiving prayer together, we simply let our taste buds be tickled by the homecooked delicacies - all singl-handedly prepared by Yian.

Goodness, we had to cast aside the calorie-counting for the time being.

SJK (C) Ung Nang - Teachers' Day Celebrations Cum Awards Presentation

I still cherish my memorable childhood days at Ung Nang Primary School (now renamed SJK (C) Ung Nang). This little village school is still humble as it was, but it has been a breeding ground for a lot of bright citizens.

I partook of the school's teachers' day celebrations this evening, cheering with them the wonderful jobs of the school teachers.

MAF Of Sibu East District - A Wonderful Meet

It was a blessing that we were able to gather in this manner to put our heads together to talk about the work of the fellowship.

At times certain issues became so mind-boggling that we had to humble ourselves in Lord.

Nonetheless, the air was filled with brotherliness.

Over some light snacks, we put our hands together to work out what has been entrusted to us.

Thank you, brothers and sisters, for your presence.

Mr. & Mrs Lau Chit Huat - They Were Made In-Laws Today!

The beaming faces of Ah Huat anf his missus were noticable far away.

The bride and groom marched in to start off the reception.

It was an all-smile occasion.

Rev Liik Tung Yeu gave a thanks-giving prayer before the dinner.

The two versatile MCs turned the evening into a lively occasion.

Ah Huat stressed a crucial point behind the rostrum.

.....and came the champagne time.

A toast to everybody.

We went up to give a number also.

I was invited by Mr. & Mrs Lau Chit Huat to the wedding dinner reception on the auspicious occasion of the holy marriage between their daughter Leh Sing and Wong Hong Chee. The reception was at the grand Regalia Ballroom, Kingwood Hotel.

Chit Huat (nicknamed Ah Huat) anf his missus were simply radiant the whole of this evening. The joy of the holy matrimony of Leh Sing and Hong Chee overwhelmed them, making them at a loss for words. Seriously, I had never seen Ah Huat's face beam in that manner.

It was a wonderful dinner. From the thanks-giving prayer to the last cours, we witnessed the blessings of God on Ah Huat and his family.

To the newly wedded, let me share with both of you 1 Corinthians 13: 4, 7-8 which reads: Love is patient......It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
