I checked with SAA and was much moved to learn that the card was the work of the autistic children together with their teachers. Truly, it was very touching holding the card in my hand!
Autism is a brain development disorder whose characteristic signs are impairment in social interaction and communication, as well as restricted and repetitive behavior, all exhibited before a child is 3 years old.
Autistic children deserve social care and it is best to give them early intervention in learning. This they need specialised skills and teaching methods to help the handicapped children to improve their learning.
Sibu is most fortunate to have SAA under Thomas Ling to assume this socially concerned role for the benefits of children with autism.
SAA, being a non-profit body, has to go to public to raise funds to finance its day-to-day operations. Sibuians have been supportive and they are more than willing to step forward to show their concern.
We have been helping by way of participating in annual foodfair and granting permission to SAA to place a donation box at our reception counter. This is just not very much, but we hope to be able to do more in future
